Protect Your Hearing With Ears Protection
A hearing protection device, often called an HPD, is essentially an ear protection appliance worn either over the entire ears or in conjunction with earmuffs or splitter to minimize noise-induced hearing impairment (also called tinnitus). HPDs reduce both the amount of noise entering the ear and the time it takes for the ear to detect the stimulus. The majority of people suffering from hearing impairment do not experience significant hearing reduction with wearing an HPD. This is because an HPD is not a type of hearing aid but rather a protective device worn in addition to a hearing aid. The hearing aid only works once the wearer has been wearing an HPD or an earmuff for the length of time recommended.
Unfortunately, wearing an HPD
does not guarantee complete hearing protection from hearing damage. While the
majority of people exposed to hearing loss suffer some degree of hearing
damage, it's important to note that not everyone who wears an HPD suffers
hearing damage. Most people exposed to hearing loss do not experience
significant hearing damage. So, if you have already been diagnosed with hearing
loss, it's important to understand your options for hearing protection and how
an HPD may impact your current hearing aid application.
When it comes to reducing the
impact of tinnitus on hearing, an HPD is superior to conventional hearing
protection methods such as ear muffs, ear plugs, and ear buds. An HPD works by
reducing the amount of sound the wearer subjected to through two means:
blocking out external noise and filtering internal noise. To block out external
noise, the ear plugs are effective because they plug up the ear canal to
prevent unwanted sound from entering. Ear muffs are useful because they block
out the noise from outside the ear, but they are not effective because they
only block out noise within the ear canal. Finally, ear muffs are bulky and can
become uncomfortable.
The second type of hearing
protection is custom earplugs. Custom earplugs are perfect for situations when
you want to block out all of the external noises while still remaining able to
hear the sounds from inside your head. Because they are custom-made, earplugs
can become customized to block out specific sounds and can block out specific
frequencies as well. For example, some earplugs can even isolate certain
frequencies to help stop car alarms and other loud noises from waking you up in
the middle of the night. Ear plugs may also be used to muffle specific sounds,
which makes them very popular for individuals engaged in sports or other noisy
activities. Some earplugs even feature volume control, so that you can adjust
the volume according to what is needed for you.
Another popular alternative to
earplugs is to wear proper safety earmuffs. These safety earplugs fit snugly
against your ear, preventing any sounds from escaping, while blocking out other
harmful noise from entering your ear through your eardrum. If you choose to
wear these earmuffs, you should always make sure that they are worn properly.
Properly fitting earmuffs will keep them in place and keep them from sliding
down over time, which can easily result in your hearing becoming impaired.
Finally, the best solution to
protecting your hearing is to invest in a high quality 3M peltor ear plug. A
peltor is made with special materials that allow it to completely surround your
eardrum without blocking out any of the sound. Because of this, a peltor will
provide complete isolation for all sounds within the audible spectrum. Because
they are made of special materials, not all people can use 3M peltor ear plugs,
but those who can benefit greatly from their superior noise canceling
capabilities will find that they are the perfect way to protect your hearing
and prevent any damage to your ears.
